Atlantic City Golf Vacations: Course Spotlight Twisted Dune

Twisted Dune Golf Club offers a challenging taste of Scottish links golf in Egg Harbor Township

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Playing Twisted Dune Golf Club feels like taking a mini-vacation to Scotland.

The traditional links layout is virtually treeless, in keeping with Scottish seaside golf courses, while providing a different option from the abundant forested layouts that line the Jersey Shore. The lack of trees may make the golf course more forgiving but that also means it is subject to the prevailing winds.

True to its name, Twisted Dune winds across a rugged landscape of deep ravines and tall grassy hills. The terrain is ideal for golf, but it's visually stunning as well with sandy dunes framed by fescue that contrast beautifully against the lush, undulating greens and contoured fairways.

The elevation changes are dramatic and the golf course is made even more challenging by the presence of more than 100 cavernous sand traps and bunkers. Water hazards come into play on a few holes as well. The ninth is the first of two consecutive water holes that both feature two ponds along the right side.

Twisted Dune Golf Club is formidable, but five sets of tees makes it accessible to players of all skill levels.
